Living the questions together creates community | Daniel Wahl

1 June 2017 Leave a Comment

"To participate in intentional communities that are actively living the questions together is a powerful learning accelerator. "While I lived in the Findhorn Foundation ecovillage, I had the privilege to co-direct Findhorn College and set up the world’s first ‘MSc in Sustainable Community Design’ in collaboration with Heriot Watt University. "Community design cannot be left to professional architects, engineers and planning officials alone but, once trained in whole-systems design, these … Continue reading

A Design School for Planetary Collapse | Joe Brewer

18 May 2017 Leave a Comment

"Design schools all over the world are failing their students by ignoring the most important challenges they will face as they live through a time of unprecedented disruption and ecological collapse. Let me state plainly  —  we need a Design School for Planetary Collapse. "At the core, such a school would be a right of passage for achieving the combination of intellectual, emotional, and moral maturity that our present “leaders” clearly lack. Selfishness replaced with a selfless commitment to … Continue reading

Arid land to a fertile Eden: permaculture lessons from Portugal | The Guardian

9 March 2017 Leave a Comment

"The land undulates upwards into gentle hills, cradling nooks of fertile terraces growing sweetcorn, sunflowers and tomatoes, before rolling down into tranquil lakes. It looks like a natural Edenic paradise on earth. But 20 years ago this land was arid and barren, and farming was a struggle. "The land is called Tamera, the name given to these 330 acres in southern Portugal by a community of 30 people who moved here from Germany in 1995. Today, 200 people from all over the world live here. … Continue reading

Transforming the Human Narrative: The Rise of Regenerative Development & Design

13 September 2016 Leave a Comment

"The novelist Terry Pratchett once wrote, “people think that stories are shaped by people. In fact, it’s the other way around.” However it seems these types of dichotomies are often both/and more than they are either/or. It is true that we are shaped by the stories that we inherit, but we are also co-creating these stories through the actions that we consciously — or unconsciously — take. It might be closer to the truth to see as us and our stories as co-emerging and co-evolving. "All stories … Continue reading
