At Standing Rock, a Lakota matriarch, a non-binary Appalachian, and a Jicarilla Apache / Navajo youth leader join the resistance against the Dakota Access Pipeline. They each discover their power within a movement that echoes worldwide. But as each returns home determined to break the cycle of intergenerational trauma and abuse, they realize their battle has just begun.
Our story follows Water Protectors on the front lines from Standing Rock’s inception to the present day. The fight didn’t end when the camps were evicted in February 2017. The violence of Big Oil on their sacred lands is directly connected to the genocide of Indigenous people, the abuse of the land and water, and their own personal traumas. We show how this empowering and devastating experience lit a fire within each one of them to take the lessons of Standing Rock back to their own communities and reclaim them.
It’s clear that with everything going on in the world, the urgency to put the spotlight back on Indigenous Peoples and frontline Water Protectors is as important as ever. We hope you see this film and campaign as an opportunity to be part of historic change. By supporting this project you’re involved in a singular moment, an awakening of consciousness around Indigenous and environmental sovereignty. You are elevating the message that protecting Indigenous territories begins with protecting Indigenous womxn, two-spirit, and youth. Join the community. The Movement. Show your support…
