Alixa Garcia with Matthew Bailey

28 January 2015 1 Comment

New Story Summiteers will remember being powerfully moved by this stunning spoken-word performance by Alixa Garcia, with Matthew Bailey on hang drum, at Findhorn’s New Story Summit in September 2014. Now you can enjoy it all over again.

Alixa Garcia interweaves spoken-word, lyricism, multimedia theatre and pan flute beat boxing to bring voice to the stories that go untold. She is one half of artistic activist duo, Climbing PoeTree. They explore state violence, displacement, environmental injustice and the intersections between them, and turn very complex systems into poetry so that young people can start to understand these issues and be impacted at a heart level. Their mission is twofold: “art is our weapon, our medicine, our voice and our vision; and creativity is the antidote to destruction.”

Matthew Bailey is a hang/handpan player from the UK. Having learnt percussion for over 10 years he shares the wonder of this modern instrument in a variety of live, solo and collaborative settings.
