Water is Life and Oil is Death #NoDAPL | Van Jones

6 November 2016 Leave a Comment

Powerful words from Van Jones on why we need to transform our energy system.... "What did you think was going to happen when you started digging up all this death? "Let's power a new civilisation based on the living sun, based on the living wind, based on the living imagination of our children, and based on the cleanliness and the purity and the sacredness of our water." Is blue the new green? Wave power could revolutionize the renewable-energy game

2 September 2016 1 Comment

"There's enough wave energy in the oceans to power the world, and scientists are finally close to harnessing it. "Unless you’re a surfer, a sailor or the owner of beachfront property during hurricane season, you probably don’t spend much time thinking about the power of waves. That may be changing soon. "Like a large, slowly building swell miles from shore, the wave-power revolution has quietly and gradually gained momentum. "A report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change … Continue reading

Scotland just produced enough wind energy to power it for an entire day

13 August 2016 Leave a Comment

"Strong winds combined with low demand on a sunny summer Sunday help Scotland reach ‘significant milestone’ on path towards ditching fossil fuels entirely... "For the first time on record, wind turbines have generated more electricity than was used in the whole of Scotland on a single day. "Karen Robinson, of the WeatherEnergy project, which provides information about renewables, said that electricity demand during weekends was “usually lower than the rest of the week”. People also tend to use … Continue reading

China pushes for mandatory integration of renewable power

4 April 2016 Leave a Comment

"China has become the world's biggest wind and solar power user, but a large amount of renewable power has not been able to reach the grid because transmission capabilities are lagging generating capacity by around three to five years. "China has ordered power transmission companies to provide grid connectivity for all renewable power generation sources and end a bottleneck that has left a large amount of clean power idle, the country's energy regulator said on Monday." The Solar Village is the first community in the world to produce 4x more energy than it uses

14 March 2016 2 Comments

"After architect, Rolf Disch, built the Heliotrope (the first building in the world to capture more energy than it uses) he set his sights higher. "He successfully created a retail, commercial and residential space called Sonnenschiff, translating to "Solar Ship," that was energy net-positive in 2004. The building was a hit, and over the following years 60 more residential buildings have been constructed surrounding the solar ship, all with energy positive electrical systems. Today the village, … Continue reading

Solar and Wind Just Did the Unthinkable

17 January 2016 Leave a Comment

"Cheap oil and gas couldn't stop another record year for renewables, or a turning point for energy investment. "The sun and the wind continue to defy gravity. "Renewables just finished another record-breaking year, with more money invested ($329 billion) and more capacity added (121 gigawatts) than ever before, according to new data released Thursday by Bloomberg New Energy Finance. "This wasn't supposed to happen. Oil, coal and natural gas bottomed out over the last 18 months, with bargain … Continue reading

Sweden To Become The World’s First Fossil Fuel-Free Nation In History

12 October 2015 1 Comment

"The Swedish government recently announced that their aim is to become one of the world’s first nations to end its dependence on fossil fuels. They will be investing an extra 4.5 billion kronor (US$546 million) into renewable energy and climate change action in their 2016 budget. "Not long ago, UBS, the world’s largest private bank, began urging its investors to join the clean, renewable energy movement. Their analysts are predicting that power plants in Europe might become completely extinct … Continue reading

El Hierro – The greenest island in the world?

8 October 2015 Leave a Comment

"The smallest and most isolated of the Canary Islands, El Hierro, has a way of combining hydro and wind power that may allow it, one day, to get all its energy from renewable sources. In August it went for two hours without using its diesel power station at all - but this could be the start of a bigger green transformation. "For more than 30 years, El Hierro has been dreaming of becoming self-sufficient. And this year it took a big step forward. At the end of June its new hydro-wind facility, … Continue reading
