As part of our Blog Series, How Findhorn’s New Story Initiative Enhances My Life, we invited community member Katie Lloyd-Nunn to share what the New Story means to her at this extraordinary, yet often challenging time in our human evolution….
How did you discover Findhorn’s New Story Initiative?
I lived at The Park, Findhorn 1990-1995, worked in Cullerne Garden and helped to set up the Findhorn Bay Holistic Health Centre. Then 1995-2000 I lived on the Isle of Erraid. In 2000 I moved to Gloucestershire and in 2003 started working at Hawkwood College as it was then known. I livestreamed the Findhorn Foundation’s New Story Summit in September 2014 to Hawkwood Centre for Future Thinking (CFT). I was so thrilled to manage this new technological leap and bring the Findhorn energy to another important centre. I felt a portal opened at Hawkwood with this occurrence. Janice Dolley, one of the co-focalilsers of the Summit, invited me, representing Hawkwood, to join a new group called “Onwarding the New Story” (ONS), which began with a meeting in the Olivier Mythodrama offices in London.
Two major outcomes for me were:
- Joining Richard Olivier’s leading edge workshop Questing 21st Century Leadership at Findhorn in May 2015; and
- Hawkwood CFT became an active supporter of initiatives arising out of the conference, particularly the Findhorn New Story Hub led by Mattie Porte. One function of this support role was to be one of the venues who hosted meetings going forward. I took on a facilitation and leadership role within ONS.
How has our New Story Film impacted you?
The creation of the film A NEW STORY FOR HUMANITY from the New Story Summit was a stroke of genius. Directed and produced by Mattie Porte, it is an amazingly rich archive of passionate testaments on behalf of the Earth and Humanity. The way the material has been organised and is now available for free is inspired. You can watch the trailer or cherry pick the topics that fascinate you. It encourages us to be “the builders of the new.” [Robin Alfred] Also included are reflections from within the Findhorn Community and via the internet with real, on the ground projects, successes, hopes and questions.
How do you benefit from our weekly New Story Blog Digest?
My heart always skips a little (in a good way) when I receive my weekly email from the New Story Hub. I can rely on the articles to wake me up to what’s true and good in our world. Many of the voices are familiar and quite often something fresh will appear that I have just discovered elsewhere. So I feel really connected every time. The previews of each article and the accompanying image are always beautiful and inspiring in themselves. Thank you for keeping on with the blog posts, Mattie. You are a true warrior for Good Things. Deep bow.
What inspired you to participate in our Living the New Story online learning journeys?
I joined the online learning journeys in order to walk the talk of supporting Mattie’s ambitious initiative, still in the early days of zoom, to reach out across the globe with new visions for the future. I was proud to bring Findhorn into Stroud through Hawkwood. I also really enjoyed the speakers and interaction from participants.
How does our New Story work align with your values?
My values consciously made themselves known to me and evolved through ten years living, learning and serving within the Findhorn Foundation community between 1990 -2000. These values are: clear, intelligent communication; empathy and compassion for others; healthy choices in nutrition, physicality, relationships and breathing; loving Nature, creativity and spontaneity; living well but wasting little; minimising ecological impact; loving all living beings, however challenging this might be; non-exploitative lifestyle choices; self-forgiveness when I fall short of these ideals.
What contribution has participation in our work made to your life?
The New Story Hub programmes were extremely positive for Hawkwood CFT when it was in its first 2-3 years of shaping itself into a hub. It put us on the map and Mattie was always careful to welcome Hawkwood to the livestreams, which was heartwarming. New Story Hub and Living the New Story programmes enabled me to anchor the values and gravitas of Findhorn’s global network into Southwest England, in Stroud, itself an eco-hub.
What inspires you to continue to gift to us in support of our work into the future?
Seeing new people light up when they encounter these ways of being. Witnessing the siblinghood between people who share these values and actively seek to live them in their lives with future generations in mind.
Katie-Lloyd-Nunn has participated in several of our Living the New Story online learning journeys and has been a constant companion and supporter since the inception of our enquiry into a new story for humanity, beginning with our 2014 New Story Summit and the subsequent release of our 2016 documentary film, An Enquiry into a New Story for Humanity: Change the Story, Change the World.
This reflection forms part of our Blog Series, How Findhorn’s New Story Initiative Enhances My Life. We are deeply grateful to Katie for sharing her wisdom and insights with our Findhorn New Story Community. Be sure to read our other contributions in the Series, generously offered by our ardent supporters of a new story for humanity in these uncertain and changing times.
We are most appreciative of all those who support our New Story work in the world. If you feel inspired to gift from your heart and be a part of our gift ecology network, we would love to welcome you with open hearts and arms to cocreate the more loving and beautiful world our hearts know is possible, as our dear friend Charles Eisenstein says!
