As part of our Blog Series, How Findhorn’s New Story Initiative Enhances My Life, we invited community member James Phoenix to share what the New Story means to him at this extraordinary, yet often challenging time in our human evolution….
How did you discover Findhorn’s New Story Initiative?
I attended the New Story Summit in 2014 with my brother, Frank, who had heard about the summit and asked if I would like to attend with him. I had known about Findhorn and its great work, and had a curiosity to learn and experience more. We have stayed connected to the process that led to the Living the New Story Journey.
What inspired you to participate in our Living the New Story online learning journeys?
I am convinced that humankind needs to transition to a new paradigm in order to preserve our habitat and establish new cultures and economies that are based on justice, sustainability, equality, simplicity, spiritual maturity and inclusiveness founded on the experience of the unity of life. In order to do this, we need a New Story of humanity that is global in its reach. The Living the New Story journey is an exploration of the human story that will push the effort forward in an honest and transparent manner.
How does our New Story work align with your values?
Findhorn’s New Story work aligns well with the personal and professional work with which I have been engaged for decades. I am a member of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation’s extended community and a board member of the Metta Center for Nonviolence. Both organizations are working to help humanity transition from a world of separation and violence to one of unity and peace. The New Story work resonates with and informs these efforts. It has given me a broader perspective with its many and various presentations from great souls in the New Story movement, and a chance to be in community with like-minded folk also striving to transform humanity into a more mature and responsible species.
What contribution has participation in our work made to your life?
The work has been an inspiration and education of mind and spirit. It has given me a more global outlook and offered valuable insights from those who have participated either as presenters or participants. It has given me hope as I see the array of work and effort being made around the world in the face of dire circumstances. It has both sobered and exhilarated me. It has informed both my personal and professional life in the necessity to help this transformation from living a life of individual separation into a life of unity with all of life.
What inspires you to continue to gift to us in support of our work into the future?
I have been inspired by the presentations the series has offered, the context in which they have been offered and the community that has formed around the series. I particularly appreciate the breakout sessions in which we are able to commune with people from around the globe who are striving to give birth to the New Story. I believe it important that the work go forward and hope its scope of participation can broaden into even more diverse communities of people either already living the New Story to the best of their abilities or striving to discover for themselves the New Story movement. It is important and beneficial to me to do what I can to support the effort both with involvement and resources.

James Phoenix has participated in all four of our Living the New Story online learning journeys and has been a constant companion and supporter since the inception of our enquiry into a new story for humanity, beginning with our 2014 New Story Summit and the subsequent release of our 2016 documentary film, An Enquiry into a New Story for Humanity: Change the Story, Change the World.
This reflection forms part of our Blog Series, How Findhorn’s New Story Initiative Enhances My Life. We are deeply grateful to James for sharing his wisdom and insights with our Findhorn New Story Community. Be sure to read our other contributions in the Series, generously offered by our ardent supporters of a new story for humanity in these uncertain and changing times.
We are most appreciative of all those who support our New Story work in the world. If you feel inspired to gift from your heart and be a part of our gift ecology network, we would love to welcome you with open hearts and arms to cocreate the more loving and beautiful world our hearts know is possible, as our dear friend Charles Eisenstein says!
