Peace activist completes 50-mile walk to Oxford | Satish Kumar

24 September 2016 Leave a Comment

Findhorn Fellow and Editor Emeritus of Resurgence & Ecologist Magazine, Satish Kumar, walks for peace….

“World renowned peace activist Satish Kumar took his final step in a gruelling 50-mile walk to mark International Day of Peace yesterday and to launch the Resurgence Festival.

“80-year old Satish reached the Oxfam shop at Broad Street after embarking on the walk just six days earlier from the source of the River Thames near Cirencester in Gloucestershire.

“He completed the walk ahead of the launch of the three-day Resurgence Festival which begins at Oxford’s Worcester College today and is centred on the theme One Earth, One Humanity, One Future.

“The former monk and long-term peace and environment activist, Mr Kumar has previously campaigned for land reform in India and worked tirelessly to turn Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of a renewed India and a peaceful world into a tangible reality.

“His 50-mile walk comes more than forty years after a peace walk from India in 1962 to four capitals of the nuclear world – Moscow, Paris, London and Washington DC – to highlight nuclear disarmament and world peace.

“In 1973, Mr Kumar settled in the United Kingdom and soon after became editor of Resurgence magazine, a position he has held ever since.”
