Janice Dolley, member of the core organising team for Findhorn’s New Story Summit taking place 27 September – 3 October 2014, offers food for thought to help prepare Summiteers and Local Hub group members to align on the inner to their deepest intentions in advance of the event.
The New Story Summit is not a conference, it is a summit and a summit, if it is to achieve its deepest purpose, needs deep reflection both on its intentions and on possible outcomes. We know we cannot predetermine the outcomes of an emergent process but we can honour the important roles of both inner and outer preparation for it. Co-creation with so many inspired, brilliant people in the same space for a whole week. What a gift! As one Summiteer invoked, ‘our self-organising conversation will lead to empowered collaboration which establishes new patterns of consciousness that others can more easily follow and enables us to set an embryonic coherence filled by sharing our deepest intentions’.
2. The power of intention
So building coherence as an energetic field, and as a collective will to act, is an imperative we can’t ignore. So I ask all of us, Summiteers and Local hub group members, to divine and then share our own personal intentions and work on aligning these with others. “Agreed intention creates a synergetic field of spiritual coherence that works as a conduit for enhanced intelligence and empowered action beyond the usual limitation of the individual” (Yasuhiko Genku Kimura). In order to build on what co-focaliser Richard Olivier has called the ‘cohering power of the many’, we first need to clarify the dream we are pursuing. If the 350 of us present (as well as others all round the world) can collectively dream of ‘a world our hearts know is possible’ then we have a greater chance of bringing it into Being. The power of collective dreaming may well be one of the wise lessons that we learn from the indigenous people present, for many ancient myths hold that the universal creator dreamed the world into being. There will be many challenges in aligning our intentions – our personalities love to hold ‘opinions’ – but if we can pitch the summit at the level of soul then we can reconcile differences of opinion and unite in common determination This is powerful. We then have a unique opportunity to forge a planetary alignment, even an alliance for furthering this intention. So what is our collective intention, or are we a bundle of different intentions? If so, can we work to bring these to a coherent whole? Let’s consider some of these intentions may be:
3. A New Story for our time
Elisabet Sahtouris and Satish Kumar point to the urgency of our global situation and the need for a New Story that can speak across cultures to inspire people everywhere to hold to the ‘good, the beautiful, the true and build the world anew’. I echo Elisabet’s call to face the grave seriousness of our situation and to urgently seek ‘the stories that will get the best results the fastest when we leave the summit’. We may take hope from the learning from biological evolution, that it is only when a crisis is faced by a species that a quantum shift is made. There may be potential hidden within the challenge especially as we begin to see that this time the whole universe is involved. These deeper aspects of reality emerging in our time can be seen as a necessary contribution to a ‘myth for a new civilisation’ (Charles Eisenstein). Some say that the successful emergence of the Ecozoic Era ‘can be considered the great creative task of the universe itself’ whilst others might see the awakening of the soul of humanity in loving connection with the ‘anima mundi’ – the soul of the earth – as a necessary prerequisite. Awakening to the inner self and being guided from within are guiding principles of the Findhorn Foundation story, as is the restoration of the sacred nature of Life itself. Whatever one’s spiritual world view we are facing at best the ravages of our own self-obsession, greed and disconnection from the whole and at worst an as yet largely invisible attempt to control and dominate for less than holy reasons. So the calls for soul strength, for courage, for holding to love as the glue that will sustain and for mutual encouragement are other underlying imperatives: ‘One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times’ (Clarissa Pinkila-Estes).
Then there will be many sub-strands in the story such as the call for peace and justice, for new approaches to business and economics, for holistic forms of education and healing, for each of us to take small local actions etc. My concern is that we do identify the wood from the rich variety of the trees and trust that as we ‘weave the threads’ of our collective inquiry that we enable a coherent story to emerge – magic can happen! So whatever story emerges or ‘mythic patterns’ we identify, we are also called to nurture their ongoing permeation into the culture in a diverse variety of forms.
4. A shift in the Noetic Field
My own particular focus and intention is that we enable a shift in the noetic field – for ‘Energy follows thought’, ‘As above so below’, ‘As a man thinketh so is he’ – etc. Consciousness research seems to be saying that the universe is a reflection of consciousness and that the power of the thought field is inestimable. Our mainstream media know that a daily dose of the old story is necessary to keep it going and try their best to prevent us from awakening from our sleeping state. But people are not stupid. Increasing numbers are saying, ‘we cannot go on as we are’. I have experienced in a micro way how a dedicated intention to initiate and embed a new way of thinking and acting can build in mental substance a new pattern that affects the ‘morphic field’ – and hence the patterning of the species (similar to the ‘100th monkey’ effect). When we co-generate this it cannot but help others to break free of the powerful mass thought forms that have prevailed – and this in turn will shift the focus of consciousness. As the Benedictine monk Father Bede Griffiths explained to me at his ashram in South India, “A vast shift in consciousness on a mass scale is humanity’s last hope”.
5. Co-creating a coherent field in which the true spirit of humanity can be rediscovered and realised
As Gigi Coyle encouraged other Core Organising Team members recently, “All along in our summit, as best we can, we seek to live the new story; be transparent, honour what came before, listen to what is present now and work with care for what will come, both sharing what we know and sitting in the not knowing”. We definitely need to prepare patterns of space AND we can prepare patterns along which ideas, visions and relationships can flow. How can we now co-create a psycho-spiritual climate into which the energy of 350 other Summiteers (and others in local hubs) can be embraced and incorporated? The well tilled ‘field’ of Findhorn will help us continually ‘transcend and include’ – a key attribute of higher consciousness. I hope we can truly embrace both ‘unity and diversity’ – a real need at a time when uniformity is so subtly being imposed and difference discouraged. If we can prioritise and demonstrate values such as mutuality, reciprocity, generosity, a sense of morality, deep levels of compassion, love of our planet and for each other, then we can accelerate an understanding of who we really are and what humanity is really about at this crucial time in human and Earth history.
6. Ongoing dissemination of the New Story
I am currently holding the follow up outreach and ‘dissemination’ of the summit insights. I have a glimmering of a vision for an ongoing New Story Agency or New Story Alliance of some kind. I see the many local hubs and our New Story Hub website playing key parts – as well as a planned book and film. We need to harvest an aligned intention for co-creating channels along which the impulse and communications can flow onward in connected ways at both inner and outer levels. This is a commitment I feel called to make and truly welcome the companionship of others who might be equally inspired.
7. Concluding thoughts
So, let us hold to knowing that light filled inspirations can illuminate the ‘world in waiting’ and give us ways to reach out with our vision to the many. ‘We have a dream’ and we need realise it, soon. As Goethe wrote: “Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it, Boldness has Genius, Power and Magic in it! That which we can conceive, we can realise. With boldness, aligned intention and transformative action we hold and articulate a clear intention and then the forces of the universe will flow in to assist. Esoteric science and mysticism seem to both be discovering that the cosmic quantum hologram holds the blueprint for every possibility of life. If this is so, then it is our responsibility – in humility – to choose which of the blueprints we decide to co-create. There is a light at the end of every tunnel. Let us shine our collective torch and walk towards it.
